Account Manager

Richmond, VA advertising agency is looking for an Account Manager whose qualifications include at least four years of marketing and/or advertising agency experience. Prior experience and understanding of all aspects of the senior living sales and marketing arena a plus. As an integrated marketing firm, we offer a full range of services including advertising, interactive, consultation, turnkey sales, research and public relations with emphasis in the following areas: senior housing, active adult (55-plus) housing, business-to-business, real estate and economic development. Available position requires relocation to Richmond, VA along with some out-of-state travel working to positively position national clients’ products and/or services in highly competitive marketplaces. Art Director

Virginia Living magazine, a glossy, bimonthly magazine published in Richmond, is looking for a new art director. Virginia Living is an oversize format magazine that produces a wide variety of stories every issueÑlongish feature articles, profiles, interviews, along with regular food, home, garden, art and book stories, and more. We rely heavily on original art.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The ideal candidate must be highly creative, possess solid, high-quality lifestyle magazine or ad campaign art-direction experience, and be able to drive the conceptual and design direction for the magazine, website and ancillary material. As we are a small company, this is a completely hands-on job.

The Art Director should possess a strong knowledge of photography, type, color, and image layoutsÑand use the grid. He or she must also be willing to take pictures for some stories/layouts, and illustrate others. The art director will work closely with the Publisher, Editor, Associate Editor, Creative Services Director, and Web Content Producer during the story planning process, and also be responsible for producing some marketing/promotional and website layouts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have several years of high-level design experience at a magazine, ad agency or other communications organization

  • Superior design skills, and art direction skills coupled with the ability to explain rationale
  • Have substantial experience hiring photographers, illustrators and stylists, locating archival material and scouting locations for photo shoots.
  • B. A. or Masters in Graphic Design or similar degree
  • Very strong photography and illustration skills
  • Strong project management experience and organizational skills
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator
  • Skilled in Macintosh environment, MS Office products
  • Strong familiarity with the state of Virginia.
  • Have strong typographic and color skills in order to make smart font choices and control color well.
  • Strong writing ability
  • Branding and marketing experience
  • Be able to tailor some magazine print layouts to the website.
  • Have knowledge of offset printing and be capable of executing press checks.
  • Be able to manage an art budget for the magazine
  • Be able to brainstorm ideas.
  • Be personable and possess a collegial working style.

Reports to the Publisher, John-Lawrence Smith

Hours: 8:30 to 5:30, M-F and more as needed. 8:30 to 5:30 Saturday and Sunday on 6 ÒLayout WeekendsÓ per year (1 hour comp time earned per 1 hour worked on these weekends.) Go to press checks at plant in Richmond. (1 hour comp time earned per 1 hour spent at press checks after business hours.) Press checks are shared with Creative Services Director so that one is on each check.

Pay: competitive

Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation per year
