(RICHMOND)—Kelly Thomson, a copywriter at the advertising agency Neathawk Dubuque & Packett , recently had two poems published in the American Open Mike, vol. 2, anthology called “The New American Voice.”
Her work was among the 30 entries selected for the book by editor C.J. Laity, the publisher of ChicagoPoetry.com Press, which produced and distributes the book. “The American poetry scene is thriving, and this volume is proof of that,” he wrote in the cover notes.
Thomson, who studied at the University of Mary Washington with Pulitzer prize winning poet Claudia Emerson describes herself as a “twenty-something” aspiring to live up to the standards set by Emerson.
As an advertising copywriter, Thomson sees the synergy between poetry and ad copy as part of the vast continuum of the written word. “All communication is an art,” she says. |
